HAPPY WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Celebrating what has been done and striving for a better tomorrow, today!

We are well into celebrating women's contributions around the world - past and present -- and

inspiring future generations that will continue to shatter more barriers around the world. This year's theme is 'Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories'. On Saturday, March 11, we will have Dr. Nkiru Balonwu, Founder & Co-Chair, of African Women on Board (AWB) with us to help unpack how women globally have traversed through life strengthening the Voices to achieve emancipation. This candid conversation will be led by a former HSCF Ambassador Carbel Nkenda.

We hope you will join us for a full discussion on how to move the needle forward collaboratively.

Bell Hooks - Author & Activist

"If any female feels she need anything beyond herself to legitimate and validate her existence, she is already giving away her power to be self-defining, her agency." - Bell Hooks.

Gloria Jean Watkins best known as bell hooks (she preferred to spell it in all lowercase letters to focus attention on her message rather than herself) has many publications and speeches discussing the second feminist movement as the gaps that are still felt today in uniting all women.

Her books are considered groundbreaking work of feminist history and theory analyzing the complex relations between various forms of oppression. They examine the impact of sexism on black women during slavery to the historic devaluation of womanhood, racism within the recent women's movement, and how feminism can touch and change their lives--to see that feminism is for everybody. The work continues! We encourage all to become more educated on the stories of the women's suffrage movement, the policies impacting your choices, and let's band together in driving the change. Again, it is the collective collaboration that will unearth the oppression of women in various parts of the world. When one suffers, it impacts us all.

During this month, we will highlight businesses to support, people to know, and contributions of those who continue to inspire and motivate us to amplify our voices.

For more inspiration, here is a collection of books and music to help navigate your path to being a change agent.
